A Song for the Weekend #27 Footloose by Kenny Loggins

A Song for the Weekend #27 Footloose by Kenny Loggins

I have loved musicals ever since I was small. From every single MGM musical, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland (my absolute favourite) to Grease, Fame and Saturday Night Fever to the more recent Chicago and Annie, I cannot get enough of them. I even used to sit next to the TV with an exercise book and write down all the lyrics to all the songs so that I could sing along the next time I watched the film – before the introduction of karaoke!

I can still recall the first time I watched Footloose. I kept bugging my parents to hire it from the video shop and, finally, one Saturday afternoon I sat down to watch. The title song STILL gets me every single time I hear it. After I first saw the film, I played the song over and over again and just danced my socks off! I am still full of admiration for Kevin Bacon and the role he played in that – he made dancing cool for boys!

On the way to the grading for Ross and Grace’s orange belt in karate last weekend, this song was once again on our stereo (I believe D-State may be wheeling it out at some point) and I still know every single word like it was yesterday. I am just so glad that I can now introduce it to Grace and have her love it too!

I defy you NOT to enjoy this!

It’s such a great song. I’ve rewatched the final big dance scene several times but haven’t seen the film in its entirely in at least 25 years. I’ll add that to the to-do list …
