There are some songs which you listen to throughout your life which have different meanings at different times. They kind of evolve with your life. Let It Be by The Beatles is one such song. With the fact that I wrote a poem of the same title this week, I found this rather apt.
‘Let It Be’ was a bit of a ‘sway your arms in the air’ anthem when I was much younger. I appreciated the piano playing and the fact that you could just sing a long to it. Now, with all that has happened in our lives over the past year, it is a song of comfort and acceptance of what happens, happens. There is a reason for everything.
Written by Paul McCartney, the song was released back in March 1970 from the album of the same name. It was written after McCartney had a dream about his mother, who had died of cancer when he was just 14 years old. She told him in the dream that ‘it will be alright, let it be’. This message helps me now too.
