Back in May 2013 I was trying to find an easier way to name all of Grace’s school uniform and other related items. Whilst searching Google, I happened upon a product which was invented by two busy school mums who were looking for the same thing. Like me, they were fed up with the sewing and ironing that went into naming school uniform and so, they decided to do something about it.
Stamptastic is their award-winning company and they came up with a personalised stamper, together with a very special kind of ink that can be used on everything from school uniform to PE bags, from swimming hats to stationery – and they even sourced a white fabric pen that you can use on those black-soled shoes (something that I only recently happened upon!). The stamp can be used on fabric, metal, wood & some plastics.
I reviewed the stamper and ink pad back in 2013 but little did I know what an invaluable tool this would continue to be – and just how long it would last. Grace changed schools that year so I had to name a new set of uniform and have been using the stamper for various other things ever since – including a recent Brownie Camp trip where literally everything had to be named!
It is only now that the ink pad has started to run out. The reason it has lasted so long is because I have looked after it in the manner that they suggest. You are supposed to make sure that you reseal the lid when you have finished with the ink pad and then put it back in the plastic bag provided and seal this. Plus, keep it out of direct sunlight or excessive heat. This stops it drying it. I believe that it is because of this that it has gone on to last me so long. £12 is a great investment for 3 years!
The original stamper is still going strong – but Grace decided she would like me to upgrade that now for another to allow for her surname. If you choose to stick with the one you have however, a cost of £10 will see your child through the whole of their school life. What I really love about the stamper is that it is made of clear plastic – meaning you can look through and see exactly whereabouts on your item the name will appear (great for some of the smaller labels!).
As I said earlier, we have now included a white fabric pen which the ladies at Stamptastic recommend. This is because all of Grace’s school shoes have been black-soled and I can never name them – no matter how hard I have tried! Like many other parents, we buy her school shoes at Clarks so it is extremely likely that at least one other child in the school will have the same style! Thus the need for naming them is so much more important. Their pen costs £4.99 – and I will let you know how that lasts in another 3 years! What I can do though is tell you that I am so glad I ordered this. It made it SO much easier to name Grace’s shoes. It is obvious and really shows up. I just need to see if it passes the wearing test!
To make the cost an even better investment, Stamptastic offer free postage and packing for deliveries in the UK. They also offer different coloured fabric pens, calligraphy pens, address stamps, reflectors and other seasonal stamps. You can also earn yourself 30% cashback by simply registering your PTA.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much time, effort and money this clever little product has saved me. If you go the Stamptastic route, you won’t be disappointed!
