A Song for the Weekend #13 Message in a Bottle by The Police

It’s been a few weeks since I shared my Song for the Weekend so I felt it kind of apt to return this weekend with a tribute to my sponsors for BritMums Live, Message in a Bottle Book. I am totally thrilled for them that they have exceeded their Kickstarter campaign target with still another 11 days to go.

Message in a Bottle was certainly one of the first songs I truly remember from my youth  in a series of songs which I loved from The Police – the second being ‘Walking on the Moon’.

The song was released in September 1979 and was the lead single from their second album ‘Regatta de Blanc’. It was written by Sting and is the story of a castaway on an island who sends out the message in a bid to seek love. A year later he hasn’t had a response and, thinking he is destined to be alone, he wakes up the next day to ‘a hundred billion bottles’ seeing that he is not the only one!

Enjoy!

It’s a great song and I’ve not heard of Message in a Bottle book before. Just had a quick look at their website and it is such a lovely idea. I hope they do well.
