Welcome to this week’s Song for the Weekend. Being as it is Valentines weekend and the fact that it was Ross and my anniversary this week, I had to share possibly my favourite love song of all time.
I told you on last week’s Song for the Weekend that Ross and I regularly compile our top 100. Well, this week’s song has been number one for us both more than once and, without wishing to sound morbid, it is also the final song that I would like played at my funeral.
How We Love by Beth Nielsen Chapman has to be one of the most gorgeous songs I have ever heard. It basically tells you that nothing else really matters in life but for how you love each other. If you listen carefully, you will also hear the little sound at the end that reminds me of a disappearance, the sort of noise a fairy might make if it vanished, and it completes the song in so many ways. There is also two lines in this song – ‘I will not forget your kindness when I needed it so much’ – that reminds me so much of the help I got from my mum when I was on my own after Grace was born. It always makes me cry.
