Introducing the Lystmas Angels

Introducing the Lystmas Angels

In case you haven’t heard of them before, Lyst is a high-end technology platform that is in the process of transforming the way in which people shop for fashion. They have partnered with some of the world’s greatest designers including names such as Valentino, Balenciaga and Alexander Wang as well as well-known stores including Selfridges and Saks. Lyst are a young, fast growing company which connects millions of consumers to fashion all over the world.

Their shopping experience means that you can follow your favourite brands and be the first to see the latest looks and items you might like as well as sale and stock alerts. This means that they have come up with some clever technology to create a personal shopping experience for each and every Lyst user.

Lyst has their headquarters in London which is where they started and there is also an office in New York. They are backed by a number of investors which include Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta.

To help celebrate Christmas in style, Lyst has just commissioned an illustrator called Sunny Gu to create Christmas angels based on five amazing designers: Givenchy, Matthew Williamson, Moschino, Proenza Shouler and Tibi. Each angel wears an outfit inspired by the designer’s style.

Sunny Gu is a fashion and beauty illustrator who was born in China and emigrated to the US when she was 13. She now lives in Los Angeles where she takes a keen interest in culture and looks for beautiful things to recreate within her art work. She has always loved drawing and her illustrations are always full of vibrant colours and rich details.

So, the Lyst team and designers came up with the outfits to inspire Sunny for the job in hand. She found that all the chosen clothing had very unique characteristics that represented each designer so she believes that this made her job much easier.

She worked closely with the Lyst team to figure out the best way to illustrate each angel to ensure that the outfits, wings, accessories and halo all complimented each other and helped to style each character with its own personality as well as making sure it was something that would raise the interest of the shoppers.

Sunny took a number of different inspirations from each outfit and then incorporated it into the design for the wings, which she found the most challenging part of the styling. The wings’ silhouettes needs to unify the whole image and make everything look harmonious.

The first Angel is Givenchy. She wears an unusual black jewel drop nose ring (not really my cup of tea!), some black bead pavé hoop earrings, a black racoon tail biker jacket for the wings, an off-the-shoulder silk evening gown and a lace and satin-panel dress.

Next up is the Angel wearing Moschino. The outfit consists of a blue over-sized t shirt, red boots, red gloves and a multi-coloured Moschino necklace as the halo.

The Tibi Angel wears slingback loafers, a white high-neck silk-crepe top, jersey luxe track pants and a beige shearling rider jacket together with a gold Paige Novick single sculpture earring as the halo.

The following Angel is wearing an outfit from Matthew Williamson. This consists of a stunning purple amethyst embroidered jewel satin gown, the wings use a fontaine mirror embroidered black dress and the halo depicts some ivy clip on sunglasses in black and gold.

Finally, my favourite outfit belongs to the Proenza Angel. Wearing a multicolour chiffon eyelet embroidery dress which has been mirrored with a white fox fur trimmed dress, some holed tights, a black leather headpiece and some suede woven mules.

I have to say that unless I win the lottery on a very large scale then I am not going to be able to afford any of these outfits, but I do like a bit of window shopping and I do appreciate great art. Sunny has done a wonderful job of giving these Angels real character and depicting all the outfits in a clever and beautiful fashion.

You can view more of Sunny Gu’s portfolio on her website or find her on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Disclosure: This post is written in collaboration with Lyst and you will find all of the outfits listed above on their website.
