I have some very precious memories of coming home with Grace a few days after she was born. Those are the type of memories that stay with you forever and Dettol are helping us to relive these at the moment.
As Grace’s birthday is in January, it was exceptionally chilly outside so I made sure she was snuggled up in a beautiful soft new baby blanket given to me by my neighbour. It had been crocheted by her and was lots of different colours. She was also in a purple knitted cardigan and hat that my Mum made. I will never forget how gorgeous she looked and how proud I was to be her mummy and I have honestly never felt so much love towards anyone or anything else in my life. She was simply perfect. Those first moments we shared together are beyond priceless and, of course, like a lot of mums, I keep a box of tangible memories of the important parts from Grace’s life including the blanket I brought her home in. These are now being stored in the loft ready for me to go through with her when she is older.
So, to me, the idea that many babies being born in the world today won’t experience even the simple pleasure of a warm, clean blanket and those memories will have little to no chance of being forged at all is heartbreaking. That’s why, when celebrity mum of two, Rachel Stevens, launched the new Dettol Baby Blanket Donation charity campaign this week, I felt it was important to get involved and give children in need the chance of having a blanket of their own.
The Dettol Baby Blanket Donation and Rachel are calling out to parents across the UK to ‘share the memories, not the bacteria’ by donating blankets via Freepost. For every blanket they receive, Dettol will donate £1 to the children’s medical research charity, Sparks www.sparks.org.uk, who raise much needed funds for UK families with children who are affected by serious illness or disability.
To ensure the blankets are delivered to newborn babies hygienically clean and free from germs and bugs, the collected blankets will all be washed using Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser, which kills 99.9% of bacteria even in temperatures as low as 30 degrees.
To donate a blanket, please post to the following address – no stamp is required – postage is FREE!
