Improving health, time and finances with Sians Plan.

sians plan headerOver the last six months I have gained weight but worse than that, the state of my health – both mental and physical – has suffered. I have no doubt that much of this is down to poor time management and bad planning.

So, last week I hit the reset button by doing the Race for Life, followed by a 5 day juice cleanse from Wednesday , ending yesterday. I drank 6 juices per day and plenty of water and green tea to flush everything through my system. When I felt really queasy I had a handful of natural almonds.  I have cried – lots, felt tired, have spots that REALLY hurt and woken up early every day. Finally, yesterday, I started to feel better mentally and when I stepped on the scales this morning, I found that I had lost a total of 6.6lbs. My eyes look brighter and I am starting to feel much better. Tomorrow I am back on the exercise.

So, from now on I am having a smoothie for breakfast, something similar for lunch and then I need plan properly for our evening meal together to ensure that I don’t just through some chips into the oven! 

Therefore, today, I am starting a new plan. Sians plan to be precise.

Sian is a professional home-economist and busy mum of 3 grown boys. Sian and her team are passionate about cooking using fresh ingredients, reducing food waste and saving money, but realistic to know that without a weekly plan it’s not going to happen. Sian’s Plan has been developed to make meal planning easier so that it becomes part of your weekly routine.

It looks like a great way to plan family meals for 5 to 7 days of the week ahead. You choose your meals from recipes already on line or add your own, however, I have found the recipes already varied, interesting and, most importantly, healthy. Plus, as an added bonus, the majority of them only take 35 minutes to prepare and cook. There is an easy-to-use colour system to help select your recipes. This breaks down as follows:

Once you have selected your recipes for the week, you can bring up all the ingredients you are going to need at the click of a button. This generates a grocery list which you can go through and check to see if you have the items already. If you do, you simply delete them off the list. You can then either take the list off to the supermarket or click a button to shop online.

I have planned two weeks of evening meals and we shopped for them yesterday. Because the meals are fresh, using no pre-prepared sauces, you may find you need to do a slightly bigger shop at first for things like herbs, spices, pastes and purees.

As you can see, Friday is blank. That is because Ross is taking me to The Casterbridge in Dorchester for a very special meal that he gave me for my birthday back in May. Mat Follas, the 2009 Masterchef winner, will be cooking for us.

You can, if you wish, plan each meal of the day for each day of the week. There is a great recipe book area to add to the already very varied recipe range. Some of them are free, some you have to pay for, but all of them look just as good as the ones on the plan that you already have. I have to say though that I do like the look of the kids lunch box menu planner and the smoothie recipes.

I am really looking forward to putting this new system in place and seeing how it all works for us as a family. I can’t wait to see if this saves us time, money and, most importantly, ensures that we are eating a healthy, balanced diet. Something I have strived for for a while now.

    Oh my gosh – I was watching all your juices with interest and you lost nearly half a stone?? THAT’S AMAZING! Well done lovely! I really need to do something but its hard with the two little ones. I will be trying after Christmas when my boy is a bit older. Keep it up! xxx

    Good for you Vicky, sounds fabulous and something I will definitely try once I am not living in a tiny cottage surrounded by 120 boxes!! I haven’t been good with the blogging / linking to Pocolo recently, I even forgot to mention pocolo in my last post, sorry! Loving your blog though to keep me inspired through the summer, I will be up to speed come September hopefully, and hoping we might be moving some time after that!!     By the sound of it, your body has gone through a proper detox! It can be tough at the time, but so worth it.

    Sian’s Plan sounds fab, and like it could really help people.

    As you know, we’re on GAPS and only eat natural food. I rea cannot advocate it enough 🙂

    Well done on completing the juice cleanse, I did a three day one last year and they are tough but you do feel brighter at the end of it.
    You may find that a lot of what you’ve lost will come back on pretty quickly as you start to eat meals again.
    We have had an incredibly stressful year which is definitely taking it’s toll on me so I’ll be interested to see how you get on with the meal planning.
