The Good Gift Guide – Paramount DVD Box Sets

SHREK-QUAD_5DISC_DVD_RETAIL_3D.png.r72I don’t know about you but one of the things I love to give – or receive – as a gift is a good old DVD and in particular a box set. So much more value for money! And this Christmas season Paramount Home Media are offering some real Christmas Crackers including a box set of the four Shrek films which I agreed to review.

Shrek and his pal Donkey have become firm favourites with me over the years and Grace is starting to feel the same way about them now. Shrek, the first film, is a regular weekend afternoon movie where there is something for everyone. The jokes and humour for the adults and fun stuff for the kids.

Having only seen the first 3 films, I am rather excited to sit down over the Christmas period with a mug of hot chocolate and a few mince pies to watch the 4th!  Here is a run down of all 4 films which make up the set.

The first Shrek film sees Shrek and Donkey set off on an adventure on behalf of Lord Farquaad to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from a castle protected by a dragon so that Shrek can get back the deed to his beloved home – the Swamp. But all is not as it seems, as Fiona holds a secret which turns out to benefit Shrek! It’s no wonder this film won an academy award for best animated feature.

The second film is all about Shrek, Donkey and Fiona returning back to Fiona’s homeland – Happily Ever After –  in order for Shrek to ‘meet the parents’ but they get more than they bargained for when Shrek has to take on a Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and the ogre-killing Puss in Boots in order to save the day!

Shrek 3 starts with the frog father-in-law croaking it and leaving behind his legacy which Shrek really doesn’t want responsibility for so Shrek accompanied by Donkey and Puss embark on a journey to find the rightful heir to the throne. This film includes a misguided Merlin, rather awkward Arthur and a big powerful group of Princesses! More fantastic adventures.

Finally the fourth film in the box is the final chapter in Shrek’s shenanigans as he signs Rumplestiltskin’s magical contract and then – in an instant – everything he knows and loves changes. Donkey no longer remembers his best friend, Fiona is a tough warrior princess and Puss in Boots has become a fat cat. They only have 24 hours to change the contract and save Far, Far Away.

This box set is full of fun and definitely one for all the family, thanks to Paramount.

Disclaimer: I was sent the Shrek Box Set to keep in return for a review, however please be aware that I did not receive any monetary compensation and all words and opinions are my own. We love Shrek!!
