Dukan? You Can! My Diet Journey – Week 8

So, it’s back to what Ross and I have come to know as ‘normality’ on the diet front this past week. He excelled at the alcohol drinking much more than I did so I was really proud of him in the fact that he has come straight back off it this week. I had two glasses of wine, a piece of Grace’s birthday cake and a doughnut last weekend. This seems far behind us now!

This week we have mainly stuck to protein only days in a bid to get back on our diet target course. As most of you know, my aim was to lose 20.4lbs by 20th January 2013. With the rude interruption of Christmas to scupper our plans, it has put us slightly behind on our targets so I am prepared to lengthn this stage of the Dukan Diet known as the ‘Cruise’ phase (one day protein only, one day protein and certain vegetables) and go beyond the 20th in order to reach our goal.

I have made two major discoveries with our food this week. Firstly, we have managed to find a supplement for potatoes/chips/rice/pasta. These are oat cookies which I have adjusted the recipe for. Instead of adding sweetner to the 3 tbsps oatbran, 3 tbsps yoghurt, 1 tsp baking powder and 1 egg, I am now adding bouillion powder to make savoury biscuits instead! Having these with some chicken and dukan gravy has made all the difference – and means far less eggs – to our meals. The other thing we are enjoying is hot chocolate. Using skimmed milk, a sweetner and reduced fat cocoa powder – as well as a frother to make it more interesting – we have an evening drink to look forward to.

Whilst adjusting back to the way we were hasn’t been easy, it has been very welcome and easier due to the fact that we didn’t stray too far from the path!

We are both back at the gym more regularly now too. I have just signed up to The Fitness Space, a gym closer to Grace’s school, which makes life much easier for me. The good thing is that the new gym throws in a personal trainer session for 45 minutes once a month to make sure that you are on target for what you are trying to achieve. Because of this I am looking forward to varying my exercise a bit more and not just sticking my headphones on and getting on the cross trainer. No more 6am starts either – yippee! I have done a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes of exercise this week and travelled 4.4km.  Ross has done really well and achieved far more than me in the gym department.

I am starting to feel so much lighter and more spritely. It actually feels as if I am sucking in my cheeks to accentuate my cheek bones but I realise it is my face re-shaping itself. Also, when I exercise I feel NO MORE wobble!! Woohoo!

Yesterday when I weighed myself, I was shocked and extremely delighted to see that my weight was down to 152.8lbs but how did I fair this morning. The results are below:

  • Last Friday: 154.6lbs
  • This Friday: 151.0lbs
  • Loss for the week: 3.6lbs
  • Total loss so far: 14.4lbs
  • Total to go: 6.0lbs

I have actually lost over a stone! A stone! What a wonderful way to start the new year :). It also seems only right that I give you a full update on where Ross is at too, so here are his results:

  • Starting weight: 200.2lbs
  • This Friday:  180.2lbs
  • Total loss so far: 20.6lbs
  • Total to go: 5.2lbs

      Thank you so much :). I don’t think my willpower will stretch as far as to wean myself off the sweetners! I miss chocolate desperately! Yep, the oat biscuits have to be one of the easiest things there is on this diet! xx
