The Sound of Silence

Today I am settling down to the sound of silence, knowing that Grace is somewhere in a classroom filling her brain full of new things and we are back once again to routine ‘normality’ – or as normal as you can get in our house! (that was until my car decided to break down this morning and change my plans for the day completely!!)

We’ve had a wonderful half term. The start of it was ‘me and Ross’ time as Grace was off at her fathers. I also had a chance to take my Mum for afternoon tea in Datchet, which was the birthday present I had given her the week before.

When Grace returned, we weren’t short on things to do. On Wednesday, Halloween, we carved a pumpkin, did some trick or treating round the neighbours (after checking with them first) and then watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Unfortunately due to far too many treats, they came back up to trick her at around midnight so there I was changing bed sheets!

On the Thursday we did some tripping around the shops to run some errands and we stopped in time to pick up ingredients to make salted caramel fudge. Following that, it was the Ross and Grace Mario Kart Challenge!

Friday saw us on our ‘Britains Best Day Out’ to London Zoo – a post for which will follow later.

Saturday was a girly lunch and shopping day with two of my sisters, my two nieces and my Mum. We had a lovely lunch in Ask, followed by a bit of retail therapy for Grace and Emily. It really was the sign of times to come as they both walked up to handbags saying ‘look at the bling on that!’

Sunday was a trip to Wembley Arena to watch the WWE Smackdown wrestling. Grace had a wonderful time at her first big event and despite her favourite wrestler, Kane, not being there, she was happy to cheer on The Big Show. Ross even got her a t-shirt – one very happy girl.

Finally yesterday was an easy day, Grace sat and played with her Barbies most of the day. I’ve never seen so many changes of outfit on one doll before. She spread her red dressing gown out on the floor and when I asked her why, she told me that it was the poppy fields for her Barbies to dance in. We rounded off the day with a meal out and some sparklers to follow (Grace is still a bit too scared of the full firework experience!).

All in all, a lovely half term. Roll on Christmas holidays!
