The Conception Diaries are a blog & vlog series about our attempts to get pregnant, fertility problems & our trip to Spain for IVF egg donation treatment.
Ross and I were together for 2 years before we decided to start trying to get pregnant. I already had a daughter from a previous relationship. Ross has been an amazing stepdad to her but he also wanted a biological child of his own. Our first pregnancy resulted in miscarriage and our second was an ectopic pregnancy.
When we realised we weren’t succeeding we started to question our fertility. Due to my age and the fact I already had a daughter, NHS choices were limited to us. I consulted forums such as babycentre uk and mumsnet talk which helped a little. I used apps and ovulation kits. Ross had his sperm count checked but it was my AMH levels which were the issue. On top of this I also have a chromosome imbalance. The odds were against us. Fertilisation wasn’t happening and it became obvious we had fertility problems.
After some research, we decided to go for IVF treatment in the form of egg donation. I had a bit of a hard time but, after understanding epigenetics, we went for our first cycle. This was in Cyprus and we had a bad experience. Then we went to IVF Spain in Alicante, thanks to Fertility Road Magazine.
You can follow our journey in full over on my YouTube channel and my series ‘The Conception Diaries’. They are honest and sometimes difficult to watch but I hope they help other people who are having conception and pregnancy problems.
