Big Sister, Grace.

I have never known Grace quite so excited as I saw her last week. For a very long time now she has wanted to be a big sister. With each birthday that passed and each well she happened upon, she was always making the same wish. ‘Please let mum have a baby’.  One of the biggest rewards for me in the whole of our journey was that we have made this wish come true for her.

In the beginning, Grace decided that a little sister would be best. She could buy it dresses and do girly things and, basically, well, it’s a girl! Anyway, as time as gone on Grace seems to have changed her train of thought. Maybe a brother would be better. It would mean that she could still have girly days out with me and that Ross could do ‘man’ things with a boy whilst we were out! Since finding out, Grace has regularly fist-bumped my tummy and calls her little brother ‘dude’. It makes me feel good every single time. Here is my poem for this week.

Big Sister, Grace

Your face lights up there’s a glint in your eyes
You can’t wait to find out the surprise
The way you are feeling needs no disguise
You feel like you’ve won the biggest prize

You ran all the way home to get the news
And found out from a pair of shoes
‘Dude’ and fist-bump are now the words you use
For me, it never fails to amuse

For all of us there has been an empty space
None of us can wait to see his face
I know you will give him the biggest embrace
Because you will make the best big sister, Grace
