I Remember a Time

I Remember a Time

I remember a time before social media and the internet
Where no one had a platform to speak
Nowadays it seems to me that
Everyone’s a nerd or a geek

I remember a time before CDs when music was stored on cassette
Either that or it was on vinyl
Nowadays it is all download
Which, to me, just doesn’t seem final

I remember a time when Kids TV was on at a certain time
It cut off just before the news
Now you can watch on all types of devices
Including YouTube which registers views

I remember when you had to queue to see the latest film
Round the block we’d form a line
Now you can book to see what you want
By doing it all online

I remember a time before all the smart phones
I’d come home and ring my friends
Now you can use them to play games too
The amusement never ends!

This 24/7 entertainment all hours culture is certainly difficult to navigate – especially when you’re a parent too! I know i have to constantly think about boundaries… Anyway, I enjoyed your poem, and I’m enjoying all the ‘Prose for Thought’ posts. Thanks!

Our world has definitely changed a lot since we were kids, hasn’t it? Often – but not always – for the better.

Yep and having to wait for someone to get off the internet before going online… and that wasn’t for long because you had to pay each time, unlike broadband! Thanks for hosting #prose4t

This made me smile! You won’t be surprised to know that I remember all of this too. I was actually pretty late to the party with using the internet and I kept using cassettes right until 2002 (my car had a cassette player, but I also used them at home). The only thing that stopped me was that my son systematically unravelled them all as a toddler!

I do miss the good old days….Cassette tapes and kids TV. Kids have it so easy now with their shows on 24/7 x
