One of the things that I continue to love about music are the memories it holds. There are regularly times where I listen to a track and it takes me back to a specific time or event in my life. Some are happy, some sad and some are reflective. I guess every song I share every week with you has an element of this about it, and that is the same for this week’s piece of music.
The first year we moved to Somerset, we decided to take Grace to the cinema for her birthday to see the second Hobbit film, ‘The Desolation of Smaug’. I have to say that, from the point we moved to this area, I felt even closer to Ross and Grace and we really did become a proper family of three. It was the first time I had seen any of the Lord of the Rings-type films at the cinema, so it really was something special for me – and I loved the scene with Legolas, Tauriel and the dwarves escaping in the empty wine barrels down the river.
As the end of the film came, ‘I See Fire’ by Ed Sheeran started to play. For some reason now, every time I hear this song, it reminds me of my family and the closeness that I have with them. I love the guitar, the harmonies and the way the song builds. It will always remind me of Ross, Grace and I and the times we spend together.
