When Grace was small and I lived on my own with her, there were a few ‘go to’ films that we would regularly watch together. There was Monsters Inc where she and I would fall around laughing at the monster at the beginning who had ‘bumped his bottom’ – I can still remember her two year old self giggling so much. Then, there was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – the Gene Wilder version of course! Grace used to love the golden egg song although I had to try and prevent her emulating Veruca Salt ripping things off the table! Finally, there was the film Cars. Grace absolutely loved the tractor-tipping part where Mater and Lightning McQueen went out into the fields and turned over the tractors for them to make a farting noise – which of course was always absolutely hilarious. Until Frank showed up and she willed Mater and Lightning McQueen to get away fast!
Of course, there are plenty of songs in the Willy Wonka film which Grace and I love but, in the past year, Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts has reappeared in our lives. It was played during the film Cars when Lightning McQueen was being transported to his next race. It was always a ‘feel good’ song to me and meant a lot to me at the time. I have mentioned on a previous Song for the Weekend that we love to play rock band and it is one of the songs on one of the the discs that we have. It isn’t an easy song to sing (I have tried!) but I still love it just the same.
