After interviewing some of the acts over the past couple of months, finally, this weekend is Rewind Festival South. This festival is renowned for it’s ’80’s theme and it will be the sixth time for me and Ross’ fifth visit – and for the past four we have been part of the press crew which means interviewing the acts and the opportunity of a photographers pass (which I will be making thorough use of this year!).
So, which song came to mind when I thought of the 1980’s? Well, even though Wham have never played Rewind, it had to be the iconic ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’.
It was 1984 and me and my family were on holiday in Bournemouth. My parents had chosen the Broughty Ferry Hotel due to it’s standing as the leading children’s hotel at the time. On the lower ground floor of this place was a ballroom with a stage and children’s entertainment every night. There was also a juke box where I continuously played this Wham song – much to many people’s annoyance I am sure!
It is a song that brings back fond memories for me. It was the year I was 13, still enjoying summers without a care in the world and really making the most of the 1980’s! The joy in this song kind of sums it all up.
