One of the singer/songwriters I have really admired over recent years has been Jason Mraz. For me, it is rare to find an album which I can listen to the whole way through without skipping any of the tracks and his album ‘Yes’ is one of those rare finds.
All of his lyrics are written with such meaning and he sings them beautifully. A number of them have made each of my last 5 top 100 songs of the year so, during our troubled times last week, I knew which song I needed to help me feel better.
3 Things is superbly written. He explains the 3 stages of pain. Firstly the acceptance of it, the fact that you have to cry before you start again. Secondly, you stop and appreciate what you do have and seek out the people who love you. Finally, the lyrics ‘The third thing that I do now when my world caves in, is I pause, I take a breath, and bow and I let that chapter end’ are what helped me back on the right track on Monday. They also inspired my poem ‘Try Again‘ this week.
It’s amazing how therapeutic music can be. Enjoy!
