How Coconut Oil Can Help the Whole Family

Coconut oil is classified as a ‘superfood’ and this is for good reason. The health benefits of this wonderful oil are endless, and studies have suggested that the populations that consume the most coconut oil, are actually among the healthiest people on the planet. It is such a versatile ingredient that can help your whole family both internally and externally.

Schools are really highlighting how important it is to be healthy, and more pressure is being put on parents to reduce childhood obesity, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Even now, obesity is one of the biggest health problems that occurs throughout the world, and making a small change and switching to coconut oil to cook with can actually increase your energy expenditure, which will help you burn more fat. This is down to the medium chain triglycerides, which can increase your energy by five percent when used daily, which can lead to a significant weight loss over time. This will help both new mums who are looking for a little bit more energy, as well as children, as it will keep them healthy from a young age.

It is not just weight loss though that makes coconut oil ideal for the family. It keeps blood cholesterol levels low, lowering your risk of heart disease, as well as reducing seizures in epileptic children. This is due to the ketones and the good fatty acids and saturated fats that are found in coconut oil. It can generally boost the immune system, which is definitely something that the whole family can benefit from, especially at this time of year when the weather is changing and people are susceptible to colds and viruses. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which is an anti-fungal, will create a hostile environment for viruses, as well as fight bacteria.

The benefits do not stop there though and there are many skin, hair and nail benefits that can help you and your family. It is extremely moisturising, which is why it is favoured as a natural remedy for a number of skin complaints, such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis, as well as a leave in conditioner for your hair. It is full of antioxidants, which in turn has many anti-ageing properties, making it a fantastic facial cleanser.

Finally, swishing coconut oil around your mouth can help prevent gum disease and fight tooth decay, due to the bacteria fighting properties that it holds. It is most effective if you do this three times a week for 20 minutes a day.

The above is just a taster of how effective coconut oil is, and it is easy to see from this just why it is so popular. It can be used everywhere from cooking to application straight onto the skin, and it really can save you a lot of time and money, as it can replace a number of different products.

I want to love coconut – but it’s just not happening!
I tried the coconut pulling – which I should really have continued with but it’s such a faff in the morning, and the amount of times I’ve nearly just spat it down the sink!!
I tried coconut milk recently too – not a fan!
I soo want to love it all thought, but my taste buds have other ideas 🙂
