Make your dingy living room a masterpiece!

Decking out your living room is a fine art on a par with sculpting a Grecian bust or putting the finishing touches to the Sistine Chapel. Well, perhaps not – but it is mighty important.

Consider the amount of time you’ll be spending in your living room. It’s where you’ll end your day with a Domino’s pizza and a beer. It’s where you’ll cuddle up to your partner to binge-watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones. And it’s where your kids will open their Christmas presents, laughing as they unveil the PlayStation 4 hidden beneath the wrapping paper.

Do you really want a room that’s so important to look run down and tatty.

Probably not – so it’s time for an overhaul.

Below are a few tips to help you get started. They might not help you get the Sistine Chapel, but they’ll certainly help create a classy living room.

Books, books, books

Is there anything classier than a set of good books? Probably not. Famous director John Waters once claimed you should never sleep with someone who doesn’t have a decent bookshelf in their house. So do you really want to risk your chances of a nightcap with a beddable partner?! 😉

Bookshelves can be purchased from plenty of places, although even a budget chain like Argos has a good quality selection. Once you’ve purchased a set of shelves you’re happy with, populate it with a few of the classics –William Shakespeare, Mary Shelley, Margaret Atwood or even Bret Easton Ellis.

Beautiful looking books can be purchased from a number of places although the Folio Society are noted for producing wonderful hardbacks. They’re pricey but undeniably gorgeous.

The main feature

For anyone not in the know, a feature wall is essentially a wall with a different, bolder design than the rest of the walls in a room. Its purpose? To draw the eye and impress your guests.

However, the feature wall also serves another function. If you’re on a lower budget, you’ll have style without breaking the bank.

For a simple wallpaper job, head to Homebase for cheap rolls. Choose one that really stands out and your room will be the envy of all who enter.

Comfiest settees

Does your settee leave you feeling a dull throbbing sensation in the derriere? Then it’s time to chuck it and make the move to a comfy sofa.

When looking for a decent settee, search for

  • Durability
  • Suitability
  • A wide range

For our money, sofa providers Saxon offer all the above and much more. Check out their site and you’ll, almost guaranteed, find the style of sofa you’re looking for.
