A Better, Brighter Me. My Health and Fitness Plan Week 2.

IMG_0705Welcome to week 2 of my health and fitness plan. This week I have reviewed a new diet (full review coming soon!) and have picked up my exercise a little more.

I have been continuing to get to grips with using the Epson Pulsense-100 and find it’s battery life of 36 hours a little frustrating! I haven’t been counting calories this week as you are not supposed to do that on the Paleo diet which I received – it is all about eating the right thing. But what I have been doing is keeping tabs on the amount of exercise I have done and how it affects my heart rate.

My Diet.

This week I have been following the Paleo diet from Soulmate Food. It came as a welcome change to smoothies, juices and soups. I had a bit of a break in between diets last Sunday and had roast chicken – but I had no potatoes and made a ratatouille to eat with it. I had one small bar of chocolate and Ross kindly bought me a can of Captain Morgans rum and coke as a treat which I drank with my meal. Then, on Monday, I started the Paleo Diet.  If you haven’t heard of the Paleo diet is based on what our ancestors, the cavemen, ate. The food was delivered to me in two phases – last Sunday and then again on Wednesday, both of which held 3 days worth of 5 courses. Below are the first 3 days.  In the more detailed review, I will reveal what they all were. I have to admit that I was apprehensive about this one. It looked like A LOT of food and I did wonder whether I would lose weight. But it did feel like I was eating at a restaurant with every meal. Next week I start the much tougher New You Plan which claims I will lose up to 2 sizes in 4 weeks. I have also increased my water intake and am now drinking around 2.5 litres a day.

Foods which weren’t for me

I had to abstain from too many raw onions (they really repeat on me!) as well as the bits of chilli!

Foods I loved

I loved it all! It was amazing to have restaurant quality food all ready to go in plastic containers. The most I had to do was microwave them for 3 minutes. My favourites were Wednesday’s Cacao Cowboy Chilli and the coconut and sesame chicken bites and the first day breakfast of scrambled egg and smoked salmon.

My Exercise

I am continuing with my squats every day. My first use of the exercise bike came last Sunday when I did 11.72km and then covered another 8.04km the next day using both our treadmill and bike. I had to abstain from the gym for a couple of reasons. Firstly, on Tuesday, I had really bad cystitis (sorry, TMI!) and couldn’t be far from the loo! Then, Ross has been away on business for the rest of the week so I had to be here for Grace. I made up for it though. I walked to school and back twice on Wednesday, then again yesterday. I also measured my resting heart rate which came in at 64bpm. The housework raised this to 104bpm, the exercise bike increased it to 128bpm which put me in the fat burning zone and the walks to and from Grace’s school (back home is uphill) raised it to a mighty 134bpm.

Total miles covered: 14.6
Total Exercise in the Zone: 1 hour 47 minutes
Total Steps: 29,979

General Wellbeing

I am continuing with my vitamins and have now been sent some new formulas to review. The cystitis appeared last weekend – and I found it odd because I haven’t had it for over 10 years! I got rid of it mid-week thanks to some treatment from the chemist. I am finding the exercise easier and easier and, as a result, I am sleeping much better. I am looking forward to the gym next week!

Weigh-in

Last week I lost a large amount – which I always tend to do in the first week. I am hoping to lose at a steady pace now the first week is out of the way.

Weight at the beginning: 187lbs

Weight last Friday: 181.0lbs

Weight this Friday: 179.6lbs

Loss for the week: 1.4lbs

Total Loss so far: 7.4lbs

I had expected a gain from the Paleo diet but I do think my increase in exercise helped. That said, I am so happy to be back under 180lbs. I have much higher expectations of the New You Plan which I start on Monday. This is a TFR diet which claims I will lose up to 2 sizes in a month. It is going to be hard going but I am so ready for it!

    Those meals look amazing; well done for sticking to it all week – and for all of it so far! I’ve only just started on my journey so am looking to you and the others who’ve been at it longer for inspiration!
    I’m intrigued as to why you expected to put on weight doing Paleo?

      Thanks Vicki – it isn’t easy! The reason I thought I would put on weight is because there appeared to be so much food – but in retrospect it wasn’t as much as it looked! Good luck with yours 🙂

    The food there looks lovely! I’ve never tried Paleo as I’m not a big meat eater – I used to be a veggie but I must say it looks good! #bloggingtojogging

    Wow! I’m impressed that you keep records so well. And 7.4 pounds is majorly impressive! I don’t think I’ve ever lost that much in a week! You go girl! Keep it up & good luck this week!

    Good luck Victoria! It can be so hard to stay motivated but the meals do sound lovely. I think as long as you’re eating tasty food, you don’t feel deprived..so don’t give up. I’m trying to stay off sugar to help my autoimmune issues and for a self confessed sugar addict it’s been hard. I have to say though the less sugar I have, the less I want and I’m not getting those awful sugar dips anymore.

    The exercise will definitely help too. It helps with weight loss but I find it lifts my mood too and makes me think twice about cheating with food because you’ve worked too bloody hard!

    Oooh those meals look lovely! I haven’t really looked into the paleo diet but if the meals look like the ones you had I’d love it! I have also incresed my water intake and try to drink 2.5 – 3lt a day and spend the day in and out of the toilet lol.     Lose up to 2 sizes in 4 weeks?! Wow! TFR is hard going, keep drinking plenty of water! I lost almost 6 stone in 16 weeks on a TFR, the maintaining afterwards was the hardest part of the diet!
