‘Yummy in my Tummy’. The All-Bran 5 Day Challenge.

All BranI’m not known for a good digestive tract. You ask anyone I have lived with….or then again, perhaps some things are better left unsaid.  Anyway, I have always had issues with my stomach. Mainly because, in the past, I have not eaten enough fruit and vegetables and because I haven’t drunk enough water.

Since starting a healthy eating plan in this house, things have started to improve but I needed something to give me a ‘helping hand’ (for want of a better description!) and that is where the All-Bran 5 Day Challenge comes in – and to make it even easier, I was sent 3 great flavours to try out: Golden Crunch, Red Berry Crunch and Chocolate…yes, that’s right CHOCOLATE, Wheats (never has a breakfast cereal tasted so good or been fought over by so many!). Once I had eaten them for 5 consecutive days, I felt so much less bloated and find my stomach much easier to,er,well…empty!

Fact from the lovely people at All-Bran:

Did you know that 90 to 95 per cent of the ‘happy’ hormone serotonin is made in the gut? A study of 1,000 UK women found 52 per cent experience digestive complaints, such as bloating or gas, at least once a week. Eating fibre everyday is a simple remedy for happy tums!

Firstly, my thoughts on the flavours:

Golden Crunch

All Bran Golden Crunch

Golden Crunch was the first flavour I tried, fully expecting it to be my second favourite, it didn’t quite make the grade.I have to admit that whilst I found this one very pleasant, I did find it just a little bit too sweet for me. It also turned the milk very sweet too. I wouldn’t turn it down if it was served though!

Red Berry Crunch

All Bran Red Berry

I have never been a big fan of what I call ‘fake’ fruit – I actually mean freeze-dried and any fruit-flavoured syrup – so I was fairly reluctant on this one BUT I was proved wrong. Unlike past experience, once I had added the milk, it tasted really nice. This is most definitely my second favourite.

Chocolate Wheats

All Bran Chocolate

Quite possibly the best cereal I have ever eaten – and no, I am not just saying that. Grace and I absolutely love them. I was worried that they may be a bit sickly but no way are they! They have little chocolate chips in them and, having always loved the way wheat cereal goes soggy in milk,  this one does exactly that with benefits!

Now, for the ‘science bit’ which I thought I would sum up by way of a poem 🙂

Yummy In My Tummy

Bloated, discomfort, zip stays undone
I really wasn’t thinking of my poor old tum
Not thinking each day of what entered my intestine
Not realising that my stomach was protesting

I’d sit most days knowing something was wrong
But what it was, I couldn’t put my finger on
So, what was I to do to restore the good?
Put more thought into breakfast food!

So the All-Bran 5 day challenge came along
To fix the balance and put right the wrong
I now have movement in more ways than I can share
I could tell you lots but I won’t go there

Now Grace and I fight for the very last wheat
Breakfast is longer a chore, it’s a treat
Grace is first to say ‘please get more Mummy’
All-Bran Chocolate wheats are yummy in our tummy!

Glad your problems are getting sorted. Sore tummies make life miserable. I didn’t know that serotonin is produced in the gut!

Love the poem. Makes me want to give the challenge a go x
