The Andrex Washlets Word Challenge – a Girl V Boy Thing!

Chatter Teeth 3When the lovely bunch over at Tots 100 announced they were looking for a host of male and female bloggers to go head to head in a google hangout word challenge on behalf of Andrex, how could I refuse? I love me a Google Hangout! Plus I love a bit of a chatter (hence my blog name!). Of course, I had to collar Ross to be in on the act too (men bloggers – where are you all?), nothing like a bit of a row healthy competition within a relationship, eh?!

Andrex Washlets surveyed 2,000 British adults to analyse their conversation and found that nearly half of Brits (47%) shy away from having conversations about difficult subjects – more of us shy away from talking about bathroom habits than mental health and sex! The survey also found that women are generally much better at broaching difficult or embarrassing topics. Or are they…?

The challenge itself pitched girl against boy. We were each given a list of words which we had to describe to the other with a selection of ‘banned’ words underneath. We were sent the list literally minutes before we were due to start so we didn’t really know what to expect.

I have to say that with both Ross and I being actors and teachers of different subjects (he trains recruiters and I teach people to drive) it would have been a pretty poor show if we hadn’t at least done fairly well in the communication stakes. This is how we did…

There you go! Ross and I are pretty evenly matched (and we always like to have a little joust with each other!). I was rather pleased with our scores and how we managed to get on the same wavelength.

It has to be said that Ross and I are great talkers and we both believe that communication is the name of the game – it’s how we manage our relationship. If something is upsetting one of us we want to be able to go to the other and discuss it in a grown-up and sensible manner with the ability to completely explain the problem – however tricky the subject might be.

I think it also helps that we are able to take the mickey out of each other which shows in our video!

I am really looking forward to seeing how everyone else got on later in the week over on the Tots 100 site!

Disclosure: Ross and I took part in the Andrex Washlets Word Challenge and did not receive any compensation to do so.

You were both great! I love that ‘women are better at broaching difficult topics’. It’s so true isn’t it? I LOVE to talk things through. My poor husband just says ‘you’ve said that’. Yes, but I said it a slightly different way before!
