So, this time last year I was minding my own business thinking up blog posts to write for my brand new site together with dreaming up themes and stuff. I had written two posts to date. I had no clue about the blogging community, that you would get PR requests, things to review, competitions to run, get paid to write things or awards to enter or be entered into. I did not start my blog for that reason!
Fast forward to this time tomorrow and I will be sitting in a room full of people I can now class as my peers in the blogging world. People who I am genuinely looking forward to spending time with. I was going to do a vlog but after the week I’ve had – the inevitable large spot that has appeared under my nose and the bags under my eyes – the make-up lady is going to have to mix a large vat of cement to cover me up tomorrow! I decided to chicken out and write instead.
The MAD Blog Awards were something I had never heard of until the voting opened up at the beginning of the year. As far as I was concerned I was still a brand new blog and things like this never happen to people like me….but it did, it really truly did. And it wasn’t even in the Best New Blog category. I am one of the finalists in Most Innovative along with Mammasaurus, Daddacool, Science Sparks and Geek Mummy – far bigger and far more established than me.
I still feel weird about the fact that my posh dress is pressed and ready and I am packed and going to board a train bound for the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington tomorrow. My roomy is Maddie from Gammon and Chips – another finalist – and when we were given the choice of Kensington High Street or Kensington Palace, we knew the Palace was the one for us! I am looking forward to seeing so many people again and meeting some for the first time.
Also, by this time tomorrow night we will likely know who won our category kindly sponsored by Seagate. I haven’t really thought about winning. If I do then it will be a bonus but the fact that I can display the badge on my blog for all time as a finalist and the fact that I am even there is something that I am so grateful for.
Tomorrow, as some of you know, is Post Comment Love and Newbie Showcase day. My good friend Jaime from The Olivers Madhouse – who sent the card you can see above – is taking care of business for me over on her blog. We spoke today and she said that I couldn’t possibly run that this weekend and that she would do it. Thank you so much lovely lady.
I am also going to reveal what I am wearing tomorrow night…
No, I’m not wearing Ross’ tux! This was my 40th Birthday dress and is the most expensive item I have in my wardrobe. I couldn’t just let it sit there. Plus it is so comfy to wear!
To anyone who voted for me, thank you so very much for your support. Thank you to Sally and her team in advance for the tireless effort that I can see is going into the organisation of this amazing event. I wish all the very best to all my fellow finalists – lets have a party!
