Ever since I started linking up to Wot So Funee with Actually Mummy, I have always come out with the highly amusing anecdotes of my daughter. What I would like to do instead this week is provide you with a couple of the lovely and loving things that Grace has said. You may remember I wrote a letter to her for her birthday where it mentions that, like me, she pretty much cries at anything! You can find it here.
Back when she and I lived on our own, I distinctly remember Mothers Day in 2010. I was very sad, and low, and felt like a nothing. Grace was wonderful and knew there was something wrong. She was only just 3 years old at the time. We drove to my Mum’s house, around 20 minutes away. As we got closer, I started to cry. Grace piped up from her car seat in the back ‘It’s OK Mummy, we are going to see Granny and she is your Mummy and she will look after you. That’s what Mummy’s do’.
She remains empathetic, and a very sharing and caring person. Last week as we walked into the skating rink ready for her lesson, we had a little chat. Grace turned to me and said ‘If you think about it, I’m really lucky really’. ‘Why’s that then Grace?’ I asked. ‘Well,’ she replied ‘I am still alive, not like some children who die when they are babies. For all we know there might have been a baby in the Boston bombing and they would be dead now’.
She also believes that ‘the stars are the people who we love who have died who are looking down on us’.
Finally, my favourite part of the day still is bedtime. At the moment Ross is reading the Skulduggery Pleasant series to her. Once he has finished the chapter then it’s my turn to go in, give her cuddles, a bit of tickle and say goodnight. Every night it is the same. I put on her relaxation music and turn off the light. We both say ‘night night, don’t let the bed bugs bite, love you, see you in the morning’ and then pretend to throw heart shapes to each other. We always make sure the other knows that there is a kiss in that heart that we throw and we swallow that kiss so that it goes into our own heart.
