Grace was boasting to me last week how she might get her own back on one of the boys at school. Apparently he had been pulling her pony tail. ‘Mummy, it’s ok, next time he does it I shall kick him in the crown joys’. I did explain to her – between stifled laughter – that this was not a nice thing to do.
For those of you who don’t know, I am the eldest of seven children. Three of us have children and one of us has one on the way. As you can imagine, Grace has a lot of Aunts, Uncles and cousins. She told me that one of her friends at school had asked her all the names of the people in her family. I asked her what she had said. She said ‘Well Mum, I told her don’t even get me started on the names in my family. I just have so many people in my life!’
I didn’t realise just how with it she was with regards to words until the other day. We were driving to school one morning when a pheasant ran out in front of me. I said ‘ Good job I didn’t knock over that pheasant, it wouldn’t have been pleasant’ and laughed at my own joke (yes, I know!). Grace came back with ‘And if there had been blood everywhere it would have been unpleasant!’
Finally, the funniest moment was yesterday morning. Grace came out with her pondering voice, you know the one – ‘Muuum?’ ‘Yes Grace?’ I asked, ‘You know what? Girls are REALLY lucky’ she came back. ‘Why’s that then?’ I responded. ‘Well, girls are really lucky because they don’t get as poorly as boys because they don’t get man flu!’ That’s my girl!!
