NaPoWriMo Day 3 – A Child Again

Day three for NaPoWriMo is all about my daughter. She is on her Easter holidays at the moment and it’s all about playtime :). Watching her play sometimes makes me wonder just what I thought about when I was her age. She’s my inspiration for a poem today.

A Child Again

Makes up songs only she understands

Sometimes has me in the palm of her hand

Full of joy and full of laughter

Shouts so much she raises the rafters

The dances we watch, she puts on a show

What they’re about goodness only knows

Open up a six year olds mind

Ponies and playgrounds is what you’ll find

Oh how I wish to venture there

A child again without a care!

Well captured! Oh to be a child again indeed! So full of joy – but also full of drama. I remember being desperately ‘in love’ when I was six. I sometimes wonder what my endgame was for that – what did I imagine would happen if this little boy ‘loved me back’? But it was all very serious to me…
