Last week I started blogging about the start of our Dukan diet. We are now at the end of our second week, so how are we fairing?
Well, this last week has had its challenges. On the first day of the cruise phase last Friday, we had a lovely cottage pie, the topping of which was puréed cauliflower with soft cheese. There was veg in the mince and it was lovely. The weekend was unexpectedly easy, moreso than I thought it would be. We went to my sister, Davina’s, 30th Birthday party in a pub on Saturday evening. Ross and I drank diet coke and had to sit on our hands when they brought out sausage rolls, sandwiches, crisps, battered prawns, pizza………mmmm. Oh, er, sorry! Got a bit lost there! My Mum had also made a beautiful two-tiered cake and I couldn’t touch a bit of it :(. I think lots of Lego Batman on the Wii helped make up for it! Plus, roast beef and lots of it! It was Monday that it struck me.
I felt weak and poorly and went to bed around 10.30pm which is really early for me but I was exhausted! I felt like I could hardly talk, let alone move! It would have been so easy to give in at this stage but I refused to let this affect me. I always find the second week of a diet the most difficult. It’s still early enough to give up and the novelty of ‘something new’, despite it being a diet, has worn off! As a result of the exhaustion, I gave the exercise a miss on Monday and Tuesday, returning on Wednesday at 6.30am with a vengeance. Ross has been much better than I have with his gym regime this week. But I was also there at 6.30am both yesterday and this morning.
The food has become a little bit monotonous with eggs and meat being the main staple! But I shall be googling for more Dukan-related recipes and tips this weekend (if you fancy sharing any below then I would be extremely grateful!) and as the shopping budget restarts on the 1st then I can plan for the month.
I was very pleased to get under 160lbs on Tuesday morning but then went back up to 160.2lbs on Wednesday and then stuck at the same weight yesterday. I don’t feel so ‘wobbly’ though and inches are starting to come off too. I took my measurements at the start of the diet and have since lost 2 inches off my hips and an inch off my waist. I’ve never kept that close an eye on my measurements before so I was pleasantly surprised by this. I also don’t know where I’d be without my phone app – it’s a great motivator as well as reminder.
So, is week 3 going to be any easier? And will I carry on losing at the rate I already have? If I do then I shall be down to my target weight by Christmas which would be amazing but somehow I think that it will be harder to lose the weight the closer I get to my target. No pain, no gain I guess (or should that be loss?!). That doesn’t mean I’m giving up though!
This morning I was happy to weigh in at 160lbs
My aim is to get down to 145lbs, a total loss of 20.4lbs.
My summary for this week:
- Last Friday: 163lbs
- Today: 160lbs
- Loss in 1 week: 3lbs
- Total loss: 5.4lbs
- Total to go: 15lbs
Roll on next week!
